Evolus Intern Scores a Marketing Job After Earning Her MBA

Evolus-LOGO

Growing up in Dallas, Sam Hartman was a competitive volleyball player. The first time she traveled to Southern California for a beach volleyball tournament, she stepped onto the sand and knew this was where she wanted to live.

Fast forward a few years and Sam was in OC earning a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts at Chapman University. After a few exciting zig zags, including time making a documentary in the Philippines, Sam decided to earn her MBA.

As she neared the end of her program, Sam was eager to find an internship to explore her interest in consumer marketing. The newly created CLAOC-Evolus internship was a perfect match. Working closely with marketing leaders Alex Clark and Kelly Lao, Sam had the chance to develop her marketing, branding, and social media skills.

Bringing strength as a writer, Sam enjoyed writing posts for the Evolus blog and developing a campaign brief. She also monitored trends and influencers and identified ways the company could connect with new audiences. A major project was to conduct a competitive social media audit across Instagram, YouTube, and Tik Tok. Sam delivered a presentation of her findings to Chief Marketing Officer Tomoko Yamagishi-Dressler.

Impact Highlights

Sam advanced her capabilities in many areas:

  • Developed her interpersonal communication skills, interacting with different colleagues
  • Learned how to structure projects in a self-directed way
  • Grew in confidence by being challenged to try new things beyond her comfort zone

Sam says even though it can be hard to find an internship, students should keep applying and let people know they are looking for an opportunity. She also recommends that new interns be patient.

“The first day you’re thrown so much information. Ride the wave, gather what you can, but give yourself time to acclimate. You will figure it out!”
