Madelyn Castaneda, a first-generation college student at California State University, Fullerton, was a participant in CLAOC’s Career Exploration Experiences (CEE) micro-internship program in Spring 2023.
Madelyn knew she wanted to work in financial services and was inspired to apply for CLAOC’s first university program with BNY Mellon. She appreciated the opportunity to build her practical skills, strengthen her professional network, and to see different career paths in the workplace that summer.

Following that experience, Madelyn applied to and was selected for the BNY Mellon competitive full-time internship program. Madelyn believes her participation in the CEE program was pivotal in securing the 10-week, summer internship because it allowed her to stand out in interviews and showcase her knowledge of the company.
Out of the 50 interns at BNY Mellon, Madelyn was one of the five selected students who secured a full-time position upon graduation. The guidance and mentorship she received from CLAOC member Ed Mora of BNY Mellon helped her leverage the CEE program into a career.
“I wouldn’t have even considered working at BNY Mellon if not for the exposure provided during the CEE,” says Madelyn. “The mentorship, client exposure, positive culture, and friendly colleagues made me see this would be an amazing place to begin my career.”
